While inZOI's arrival into the life sim arena has been met with a muted response to its ability to simulate life entertainingly, there's no denying that its extensive character creation suite is one of its major strengths. The ability to create a photorealistic Zoi with near-infinite possibilities for facial feature variation (as long as they look at least a little bit like a gorgeous South Korean pop star – there are some rules) has led to inZOI's Character Studio garnering enough praise and attention to hopefully retain player interest throughout its early access.

Aside from the ability to pull your Zois' faces into all sorts of unique configurations, you can also dress them up by choosing from an array of clothing and accessories. The range of options available is already pretty decent at launch, especially given that many designs are customisable far beyond the basic pre-set colour-swap swatches. However, there are some limitations – a notable one being the apparent absence of tattoos.

Fortunately for those of you who want to see your Zois inked, there are tattoos in the game at launch, at least after a fashion – and with a much wider version of the feature on the game's roadmap, currently slated for an August 2025 update. So while you wait for that, here's how to get tattoos in inZOI.

How to get tattoos in inZOI

Let's begin by managing some expectations, because at the time of inZOI's early access launch, tattoos are restricted to the face and neck. The developers have already promised that body tattoos are planned for an update in a few months' time, but for now, the options are really quite limited.

They're also not technically called tattoos, which can make them tricky to find in the Creation Studio. To see your tattoo options, you need to go to Appearance > Face > Face Characteristics where, at the bottom of the list of options for skin details like scars, you'll notice a tab called Face Paint. This, somewhat counterintuitively, is where you can find tattoos.

To add to the confusion in a game which gives moles and freckles separate categories, tattoos are lumped in with some other options which pretty clearly are actual face paints. However, anything applied from this category does persist across all outfits for the chosen Zoi, so they actually do behave more like tattoos, despite the name.

There are a few more limitations to the system: you can currently only have one "face paint" applied to a Zoi, so no layering or multiple tattoo designs for you right now. You also can't freely place where they appear, so if you like a design, you're locked into whatever placement the game has as its default; and editing is limited to colour wheel swaps.

However, there are some genuinely lovely designs in place already, despite the fact that tattoos aren't even an official feature of the game yet; so hopefully you can find something you like the look of while we wait for the expanded tattoo options currently slated for an August debut.
